Years later, Lena is working at a clinic when an elderly man walks in, asking for her help. It is Alex, who has survived the war and has been searching for Lena all these years.
As they embrace, Lena realizes that their promise has been fulfilled. They may have been separated by war and unimaginable horrors, but their love and commitment to each other endured.
